About Cartesian paper
The coordinate grid, explained
Cartesian graph paper is named after René Descartes, whose coordinate system locates any point in a plane using two perpendicular axes (x and y). The paper replicates this framework: equally-spaced horizontal and vertical lines form a grid of identical squares.
The uniformity is what makes it universal — every square represents the same area and every line the same weight. No special interpretation is needed. It works immediately for any graphing task.

Use cases
What is Cartesian graph paper used for?
Algebra and pre-calculus
Plotting linear functions, quadratic parabolas, absolute value functions, and systems of equations. The uniform grid makes counting units and identifying intercepts straightforward.
Geometry and coordinate proofs
Drawing geometric shapes, proving congruence using coordinates, finding areas and perimeters, and constructing transformations.
Physics lab data
Velocity-time graphs, force-extension curves, I-V characteristic curves, and any experiment where both variables change on linear scales.
Statistics: scatter plots
Hand-drawn scatter diagrams for correlation analysis, frequency histograms, cumulative frequency curves, and box-and-whisker plots.
Pixel art and design
Pixel art planning, cross-stitch and knitting pattern design, floor plan sketching, and any visual design work that benefits from a modular square grid.
Economics and finance
Supply and demand curves, price-quantity graphs, budget constraint lines, and production possibility frontiers on linear-scale axes.
